====== Manually Moving Speed-Quote Server to another Computer ====== Sometimes it is easier for an experienced IT person to manually move an existing Speed-Quote Server installation than to install and setup the Server Software and then transfer the data to the new server. In the default installation all executables, templates, data and user preferences are contained within the same root folder. In this situation, moving the server consists of: - disabling & removing the Server Software Windows Service, - copying the root Speed-Quote folder to the new computer, - creating or changing a few settings - enabling and starting the Server Software - pointing the client software to the new server ==== Disabling & Removing the existing Server Software Windows Service ==== It is important to stop the current Speed-Quote Server software in order to make sure that any data files are unlocked before moving the installation. 1) Stop the Speed-Quote Server Windows Service in the Windows Administrative Tools -> Services program. {{:public:tutorials:stopservice.jpg}}\\ 2) Set the Start Up type for the service to "Disabled". {{:public:tutorials:disableservice.jpg}}\\ 3) If you want to completely remove the windows service: * open a command prompt, * change directories to the \Programs\ folder * issue the following command: SQEnterpriseServer.exe -rs /UNINSTALL * a dialog box should appear stating that the service has been uninstalled. ==== Copying the Root Speed-Quote folder to the New Computer ==== 1) Copy the root folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\SQEnterprise\) in the default installation to the new computer. This folder may be very large. 2) Set the proper permissions for the root folder on the new computer so that the Speed-Quote Server Software can read/write to all sub-folders. ==== Set up the Windows Registry Keys and confirm that the Server Settings are correct ==== A single Windows Registry Key/Value must be set to point to the Root Folder and 4 Speed-Quote Settings need to be set correctly. 1) Add the following Windows Registry Key for a 64 bit Windows OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\APPtastic\SpeedQuote Enterprise 1b) Add the following Windows Registry Key for a 32 bit Windows OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:\SOFTWARE\APPtastic\SpeedQuote Enterprise 2) Create a String Value in that Registry Key named "RootDir" and set it's value to the full path of the Speed-Quote Root Folder (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\SQEnterprise\" ) {{:public:tutorials:rootdirregistryvalue.jpg|}}\\ 3) Use the **ApptRegEdit.exe** program to confirm/change the directory settings for the Server. The ApptRegEdit.exe program can be found in the \System\bin\ folder. (If you get an error starting the program, double-check the Windows Registry "RootDir" value). The ApptRegEdit program works the same as the Windows Registry Editor (regedit), but only changes the settings files within the Speed-Quote Root Folder. * Open the "Directories" Key in the right hand window and set each of the paths in the left hand window to the correct settings. If you are moving the Speed-Quote Root Folder to the same path as the current installation no settings need to change. {{:public:tutorials:apptregeditdirectories.jpg|}}\\ ==== Enabling and Starting the Server Software ==== The server software is now installed and can run as a "Windowed" program. You should run it in this "Windowed" mode the first time in order to test that it is installed correctly and to allow the initial cache time to be created. 1) Run \System\bin\SQEnterpriseServer.exe. Once the Server Window appears you can close it to shut down the software. 2) To install the Server Software as a windows service: * open a command prompt in Administrator Mode * change directories to the \Program\ folder * issue the following command: SQEnterpriseServer.exe -rs /INSTALL * a dialog box should appear stating that the service has been installed. 3) Start the SpeedQuote Server Windows Service in the Windows Administrative Tools -> Service program. ==== Point all Speed-Quote Client software to the new server ==== 1) Use the ApptRegEdit.exe program on each of the Client computers to change the "ClientPrefs -> HostName" to the correct Computer Name or IPV4 address of the server. e.g. SQServer2 or 192.168.1.45 {{:public:tutorials:clienthostname.jpg|}}\\ Alternatively you can use the information below to write a script to mass update all clients. ==== Underlying structure of how the client finds the server address ==== The ApptRegEdit.exe program changes small text files with an .rgf extension to update settings. The /Admin/Settings/ClientPrefs/HostName.rgf file controls where the the client software looks for the server software. The HostName.rgf file contains 3 lines of text: * the constant "String" * the length of line 3 * either the Computer Name or IPV4 Address of the server. Example: String 9 10.0.3.56 The can be found by looking for the following Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Apptastic/SpeedQuote Enterprise/RootDir or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Wow6432Node/Apptastic SpeedQuote Enterprise/RootDir
