Moving Speed-Quote to a different computer

In order to move Speed-Quote you need to follow these steps:

1. Install the software on the new computer.
2. Stop the software on the old computer.
3. Copy the appropriate files from the old computer to the new computer.
4. Start Speed-Quote on the new computer and run an “Update From the Internet”.
5. Restore the backup data to the new computer.
6. If you are moving a Speed-Quote Server you will need to point any Client computers at the new server

Download and install the Speed-Quote Server software on the new computer using Administrative rights.

Once the software is installed go to the Windows Service control panel and make sure that there is a service called “Speed-Quote Enterprise Server”. If this is not there you can install the service manually by doing the following:

• Open an Administrative command prompt by typing “cmd” in the Search for Files edit box, right-clicking on the cmd.exe shortcut and clicking “Run as Administrator”
• change directory to the Speed-Quote Enterprise Programs folder. This will depend on where you've installed Speed-Quote. (e.g. c:> cd Programs Files\SQEnterprise\Programs)
• type “Install Server Service.bat”. A dialog box should appear if the service is successfully installed.

Do NOT start the service yet.

Fingerprint the server computer using the SQServerIdentification.exe program and email [email protected] with the resulting .sid file.

If you are moving a Speed-Quote Server stop the server software from the Windows Service control panel on the old computer. After stopping the service you should also remove the Windows service. Apptastic provides a windows batch file that can be run with Administrative rights to remove the service. It is located in the “<SQEnterprise>\Programs\” folder and is called “Uninstall Server Service.bat”. This does NOT uninstall the software or delete any files, but simply removes the service from the Windows service list. This effectively stops the server software from starting when the computer starts.

The following files need to be moved from the old computer to the new computer.

1. All files in the “<SQEnterprise>\System\Forms\” folder. These are the templates for any Quote Sheets that the users have created.
2. <SQEnterprise>\Admin\SQUsers.bin. This is a file that contains all the user permissions.

The following folders need to be moved from the old computer to the new computer.

• <SQEnterprise>\Databases folder and sub-folders. These folders contain all the user entered data for Speed-Quote.
• <SQEnterprise>\Pictures folder and sub-folders. These folders contain all the user pictures for Speed-Quote.

In order to open the root <SQEnterprise> folder, click on the

“Start Button→Programs→Speed-Quote Enterprise→Open Speed-Quote Folder”.

Start the Windows service now, log into the Administrative software and run a manual update from the “Update” event. More information can be found in our online manual: Server Administration - Events.

You will need to point any existing client computers to the new server. On each of the client computers open up the “Apptastic Registry Editor” from the “Start Button→Programs→Speed-Quote Enterprise→Apptastic Registry Editor”. This program is used to change settings in Speed-Quote.

1. Click on the “ClientPrefs” folder in the left hand window.
2. Double-click on “HostName” in the right hand window.
3. Change the value in the popup dialog box to the Name or IP Address of the new Server computer.
4. Click the OK button and close the Apptastic Registry Editor.

Test that the client computer can see the new Speed-Quote server and can log in.
