Moving Speed-Quote to a different computer

In order to move Speed-Quote you need to follow these steps:

1. Install the software on the new computer.
2. Backup the data from the old computer.
3. Stop the software on the old computer.
4. Copy the appropriate files from the old computer to the new computer.
5. Start Speed-Quote on the new computer and run an “Update From the Internet”.
6. Restore the backup data to the new computer.
7. If you are moving a Speed-Quote Server you will need to point any Client computers at the new server

You will need to download the proper software from our website. If you are moving a Speed-Quote Server to the computer, download and install the Speed-Quote Server software. Otherwise download and install the Speed-Quote Client software. Do NOT start Speed-Quote on the new computer yet.

Goto the Apptastic Website

Backup the data on the old computer by using the Database Management screen. To open the Database Management screen click on the icon that looks like a filing cabinet or select the option from the Tools menu.

The Database Management screen lists all the Speed-Quote databases. Click on each database that you wish to transfer to the new computer to popup a menu of applicable options. Click on the “Save to File” option in order to save that database to a backup file.

“Save to File” will create a single compressed file containing all the database elements. By default, only the “Master Entry Sheet” product information is saved. Make sure to check ALL of the check boxes to save all of the information needed as in the picture below. We suggest that you do NOT enter a file password unless you will sending this information over the internet. Passwords cannot be recovered if forgotten.

Once the OK button is clicked you will be prompted for a filename. Select a location on your hard drive where you can easily find the file. Type a name for the compressed database file and click the Save button.

If you are moving a Speed-Quote Server stop the server software from the Windows Service control panel. The service name is Speed-Quote Enterprise Server. After stopping the service you should also remove the Windows service. Apptastic provides a windows batch file that can be run with Administrative rights to remove the service. It is located in the “<SQEnterprise>\Programs\” folder and is called “Uninstall Server Service.bat”. This does NOT uninstall the software or delete any files, but simply removes the service from the Windows service list. This effectively stops the server software from starting when the computer starts.

If you are running the “Standalone” client software that does not communicate with a Speed-Quote server, stop the software now.

The following files need to be moved from the old computer to the new computer.

1. All files in the “<SQEnterprise>\System\Forms\” folder that start with “Custom_”. These are the templates for any Custom Quote Sheets that the users have created.
2. If you are moving a Speed-Quote server, you will also need to copy “<SQEnterprise>\Admin\SQUsers.bin” file. This is a file that contains all the user permissions.

In order to open the root <SQEnterprise> folder, click on the

“Start Button→Programs→Speed-Quote Enterprise→Open Speed-Quote Folder”.

If you are moving a Speed-Quote Server start the Windows service now, log into the Administrative software and run a manual update from the “Update” event. More information can be found in our online manual: Server Administration - Events.

If you are running the Standalone software, start Speed-Quote and click on the “Update From Internet” icon.

Goto the Database Management screen on the new computer (see step 2.) and select “Load Database→Load Speed-Quote Enterprise Database File”. Select one of the compressed database files (.sqz) that you saved in step 2 and click the Open button to restore the Database information and pictures.

If you are moving a Speed-Quote Enterprise server you will need to point any existing client computers to the new server. On each of the client computers open up the “Apptastic Registry Editor” from the “Start Button→Programs→Speed-Quote Enterprise→Apptastic Registry Editor”. This program is used to change settings in Speed-Quote.

1. Click on the “ClientPrefs” folder in the left hand window.
2. Double-click on “HostName” in the right hand window.
3. Change the value in the popup dialog box to the Name or IP Address of the new Server computer.
4. Click the OK button and close the Apptastic Registry Editor.

Test that the client computer can see the new Speed-Quote server and can log in.
