Problems Exporting Quotes to Excel
Speed-Quote needs to communicate with a local version of Microsoft Excel in order to export quotes to excel. Sometimes Excel stops listening to Speed-Quote. There are a number of reasons this may happen. If Speed-Quote stops exporting quotes to excel, please try the following:
A. Temporarily disable any security software on your computer
Temporarily disable any security software on your computer (e.g. Norton, ESET, etc). Sometimes an update to security software blocks the communication to Excel. If disabling the security software fixes the problem, you will need to add an exemption for Speed-Quote in the security software. Please see the instructions for your security software to see how to do this.
B. Add Speed-Quote to Excel Trusted Locations
More recent versions of Excel may need Speed-Quote to be added to Excels “Trusted Locations”. To do this follow these instructions:
- Make sure Speed-Quote is not running
- Open a blank workbook in Excel
- Select File → Options → Trust Center and then select Trust Center Settings
- When the window opens, select Trusted Locations and then select Add new location
- Add Speed-Quote Files
C. Reset Excels COM settings in the Registry Editor
Sometimes the settings for communication with Excel can become corrupted in the Windows Registry Editor. Here are 2 sets of instructions to try to fix this.
Repair Excel using the Control Panel
- Open the Control Panel → Programs and Features window.
- Find Microsoft Office in the list of installed programs and highlight it.
- Click “Change” and then select “Repair” from the allowable options.
- Once that is finished try running Speed-Quote again and exporting to excel.
Resetting the COM settings for Excel in the Windows Registry Settings
Please note that making incorrect changes to the Windows Registry Settings can cause Windows to stop working. If you are not sure what you are doing please ask a professional IT person.
- Make sure Excel is NOT running.
- Open the Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
- Find the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{00020813-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} key
- Rename this key to {00020813-0000-0000-C000-000000000046.bak}
- Open Excel and it should recreate the previous key with the proper settings.
