Multiple Client Installations on a Single Computer
You may want to set up a “test” SpeedQuote server and a “production” SpeedQuote server. Certain people in the company may want to be able to connect to both servers from the same computer. Do NOT simply change the client software to point at the other server. When the SpeedQuote client software connects to a SpeedQuote server all programs and data get synchronized between the Client software and Server software. You will need to have separate client software installations on that computer.
The safest way to create a second installation of a SpeedQuote client is a manual installation:
Step 1 - Copy the entire SQEnterprise folder to another location and rename it. e.g. SpeedQuote_Test
Step 2 - Add new keys to the Windows Registry using regedit.exe
The Windows Registry contains a single key that points at the installation of a SpeedQuote client. It may reside in 1 of 2 places.
In 32-bit Windows the path is “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\APPtastic\SpeedQuote Enterprise\”
In 64-bit Windows the path is “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\APPtastic\SpeedQuote Enterprise\”
You will need to add 2 new keys into the Windows registry at the above path.
- New DWORD key called “MultipleInstalls”. Set the value to 1.
- New String key called “RootDir2”. Set the value to the path to the new folder. Make sure it ends with a “\”.
Step 3 - Change the SpeedQuote Client Settings using the APPtastic Registry Editor
You can change SpeedQuote Client Settings with a program that works just like the Windows Registry Editor. You can access it from a shortcut in the Windows Start Menu. Start Menu → Programs → SpeedQuote Enterprise → Apptastic Registry Editor.
If you have correctly added the new keys in Step 2, when you run the Apptastic Registry Editor you should see 2 root “SpeedQuote Enterprise” folders in the left hand window. Each root folder will show the path to the location of each copy of the SpeedQuote client. Open the “Directories” key under the second SpeedQuote Enterprise key. Change each of the directory values to point to the proper location. In our example we have copied the original “SQEnterprise” to a new folder called “SQEnterprise_TestServer”. That means we need to change each of the values under the “Directories” key to reflect “SQEnterprise_TestServer”.
Next change the “HostName” value under the “ClientPrefs” key to either the Name or IP Address of the new server.
Close the Apptastic Registry Editor.
Step 4 - Create a shortcut to the new SpeedQuote Client software
Open the “System\bin\” folder within the new SpeedQuote folder (in our example - “SQEnterprise_TestServer\System\bin\”). Right click on “SpeedQuoteEnterprise.exe” and select “Create a Shortcut”. This will create a shortcut that will start the new copy of SpeedQuote. It can be copied to the Desktop or pinned to the taskbar.
